3D modeling

With 3D modeling, the pieces are designed to be three-dimensional in their correct dimensions, making them easy to view from all sides. From 3D models, we can also obtain the first product images for you if you need them for visualizing purposes.

Benefits of 3D modelling

  1. Efficiency in design
3D modeling reduces the time and money spent on designing. The 3D model created at 1:1 helps to eliminate errors in the design of the product even before the prototypes are manufactured, as each component of the part or product can be scanned and tested virtually. Modeling makes it easy to edit the plan.
  1. Lead time is reduced
The 3D model used to support product design can be utilized in mechanics simulation and thermal simulation. Virtual testing carried out by simulation helps to ensure that the product complies with the requirements and lasts in use. This reduces lead time, and the product is placed on the market faster.
  1. Completed visualization
3D models can easily be turned into renderings to help visualize the product. In addition to internal stakeholders, it may be important for investors, customers and other external stakeholders to see a "workable model" before it goes into production.

3D modeling techniques: surface modeling and solid modeling

3D modelling uses two individual modeling methods: surface modeling and solid modeling. Both have their own applications and in some cases it is useful to use a combination of them.

Surface modeling

Surface modeling can be used to accurately describe the external features of a piece. It is used to help with industrial design and create realistic 3D product images and videos.

The model of the piece created by surface modeling is a polygon shell. Therefore, a 3D model formed in this way cannot be analyzed on the basis of physical characteristics such as volume or mass. However, accurate surface models can be converted into solid 3D models.

Solid modeling

Solid modeling is suitable for modeling dimensionally accurate mechanical pieces.

In this way, modeled pieces can be accurately analyzed by, for example, simulating them in varying usage scenarios. In addition, a piece made with volume modeling can be used in production as the basis for a CNC program, or a 3D model can be printed from it.

3D modeling and printing services from Mectalent

The prerequisite for effective 3D modelling is that the designer is able to utilize various modeling methods and software in such a way that the end result is achieved as effortlessly as possible, while taking into account the requirements of the product's manufacture.

Our experts have ironclad 3D modelling expertise reaching several decades. We use SolidWorks, which is compatible with most systems.

We model individual parts and pieces as well as machines and other mechanically comprehensive entities. We can build a 3D model based on an existing product or from customer drawings.

Durable 3D printed prototypes

Prototypes and quick models can be produced easily with 3D printing, without any tool or mold costs.

We do 3D printing with a printer where, in addition to the material to be extruded, the structure of the piece can be reinforced with long fiber. Reinforced with carbon filaments, the 3D models are extremely durable and have a stiffness comparable to those worked from aluminium.

In addition to printing, we also handle the post-treatment of 3D models in accordance with your needs.
